Former Vice President Joe Biden claimed in an interview released Thursday that “unlike the African-American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community.”

Biden’s remarks came as the presumptive Democratic nominee was addressing the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists at their joint virtual convention just weeks ahead of Biden formally accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.
President Donald Trump immediately jumped on Biden’s comments, telling reporters on the White House lawn that Biden “totally disparaged and insulted the black community.”
“What he said is incredible,” Trump said. “I don’t know what’s going on with him, but it was a very insulting statement he made.”

Biden’s comments also come a day after the former vice president asked a black reporter if he was a “junkie” on cocaine. Just over two months ago, Biden also caught fire for his remarks on “The Breakfast Club” podcast when he said that if voters are still undecided in this year’s election, they’re not actually black.
“If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden said.
