A man who worked security at a nightclub with George Floyd and Derek Chauvin has claimed the two men knew each other prior to the incident, which resulted in Floyd’s death. They allegedly did not get along well.
CBS reported Tuesday that security guard David Pinney said he believed Floyd and the man accused of killing him knew each other well and did not have a friendly relationship.
Last month, the venue’s owner, Maya Santamaria, confirmed the two worked overlapping shifts while working at her club. Pinney elaborated on the supposed tension between Floyd and Chauvin.
“They bumped heads,” he stated. “It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive in the club with some of the patrons, which is, which was an issue.”
The revelation could have implications in the case against Chauvin as the lawyer representing Floyd’s family has called for an upgrade from second to first-degree murder charges. He believes there was intent by Chauvin in his actions against Floyd.
