Germany’s AFD rallies supporters in Stuttgart
UPDATED 8:51 AM PT — Monday, May 25, 2020
A rising number of German citizens are protesting coronavirus-related lockdowns in their country. Hundreds took to the streets of Stuttgart on Sunday where they urged Chancellor Angela Merkel to reopen the economy.
The rally was organized by right-wing party Alternative for Germany and other patriotic groups. Protesters pointed out that ongoing shutdowns have destroyed thousands of jobs and undermined small businesses across Germany.
“Politicians and the media have put out a new narrative. Critics of coronavirus measures are wackos and dummies, right-wing extremists and conspiracy theorists. What arrogance, what disdain for tax-payers, my friends! Have a look. Completely normal people are standing here and they’re entitled to be concerned about their rights, freedoms, jobs, future and well-being of their children.”

Meanwhile, the rally attracted groups of counter-protesters who called for extensions of lockdowns and tighter government restrictions.
